16GB RAM phones' existence threatened by memory shortage

The memes about RAM prices are funny and all, but the consequences of the memory supply crunch are anything but. Word on the street is that 16GB RAM phones will become extinct next year and we will see the return of budget phones with 4GB RAM. We've already seen some flagships with hiked prices compared to their predecessors, and we are now hearing that Samsung plans to bump up the prices of its mid-range lineup in India. However, raising prices is not a universal fix. In price-sensitive markets, smartphone manufacturers will choose to cut costs instead of going up the price ladder....

Samsung expected to increase Galaxy A series prices in India

The Galaxy A37 and A57 are expected to drop next month, and usually, the current models become more affordable. The Galaxy A56, on the other hand, will see its price go up by INR 2,000. The new prices will go into effect next week as early as Monday. The most probable reason for the price hikes is the cost of memory chips. You've probably already seen the memes online. Weekly poll results: the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is surprisingly popular

Last week’s poll ends with interesting results – the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is surprisingly popular. Okay, the plurality of people is turned away by its price, but those people still find the form factor appealing. Add those who are willing to spend as much as necessary to get into the new form factor early plus those who are on the fence and are waiting and the Z TriFold crosses the 50% mark. It’s rare to see a fresh idea in the mobile space get so much support out of the gate – super-slim phones experienced the exact opposite situation. What we find particularly interesting is how...

Chargers explained - how to pick up the right phone charger

The answer to the question “what charger should I use for my phone?” used to be simple – the right charger came in the box. That hasn’t been true for a while now, at least not for most phones in most regions. Now you are expected to go out and buy your own charger. But which one? The main problem is that the U in USB is a lie – it’s universal only if you are okay with outdated data speeds and slow charging. If you want more than 480Mbps and 10W, then things are a lot more fractured. There are standards that come from the USB Implementers Forum and all phones do support them as a...

Swiss Competition Commission is now investigating Apple for iPhone NFC access

Apple has found itself in the crosshairs of the European Commission many times over the past few years, and now it's also being investigated by the Swiss Competition Commission (SCC). This has to do with access to NFC on iPhones. Apple started to allow third-party access to the NFC chip last year, following an initial opening up in the EU. But if you want to use the iPhone's NFC chip, you need to enter into a commercial agreement with Apple and pay the fees it requests, and that is precisely what the SCC is investigating. Namely, the SCC is trying to ascertain whether Apple's terms...

In Korea, this repair will be priced at KRW 1,657,500 at the lowest level. That's approximately $1,122, which makes this officially the most expensive Samsung smartphone screen replacement in history, but given the type of display we're talking about here, that's not really surprising, is it? Luckily,...

Android gets the ability to share live video with emergency services

Google has announced a new feature called Android Emergency Live Video, and it's pretty much what you'd assume it would be based on the name - the ability to share live video with emergency services. And it works "in a single tap" too, because in an emergency every second counts. During an emergency call or text, a dispatcher can request live video from your phone, and you can start securely streaming with just one tap. The video will let emergency responders quickly assess the situation and get you the help you need. With the real-time view they can also guide you through life-saving...

vivo X200T is coming, here's what it is

According to a new rumor, vivo is working on a new device that it will call X200T. That's a strange name for this brand, and if you're wondering what to expect, this will allegedly be "a mix of the X200 and X200 FE". It's expected to launch in India by the end of January. It definitely sounds like a weird release considering the fact that the X300 and X300 Pro have just become available in India, so a new device in the X200 line may feel instantly outdated in comparison. vivo X200 FE The X200T is said to be similar in size to the X200 FE, which has a 6.31-inch touchscreen.
